Last week WYRT was invited to the beautiful grounds of the Alice Austen House on Staten Island. Kiamesha Smalls (WYRT operations manager) and Brandon Graham (WYRT Brand Mgr) went to see the presentation of the Top 10 submissions from the Fashion Island Design Competition. The Top 10 finalist were selected by Colette Wong, head of the fashion design department at FIT.
The Alice Austen House is a historical landmark where photographer Alice Austen (1866-1952) lived and it has been turned into a museum. She was one of the first women photographers in this country to work outside the confines of a studio.
The president of the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation, Cesar J. Claro, opened the ceremony and then introduced the creator of Fashion Island, Alexandra Porto. She introduced each of the illustrators/designers in attendance.
Here’s a short clip of a fashion illustrator who used Buddhism as her inspiration.
Make sure to attend the Fashion Island 3-day event September 6-8. Special guest fashion illustrator Julie Johnson, who you may know as the official fashion illustrator for Filene’s Basement, will be in attendance.
If you missed entering this year’s competition stay tuned for your chance to win up to $4,000 in prizes. For more pics from this event CLICK HERE.
